Worker receives life-threatening injury in chainsaw accident

_ (press release) _ Paramedics responded to a call for an industrial accident that occurred on Sharkey Crescent in Cumberland. The Ottawa Paramedic Service Communications Centre received the call at 10:31 hrs today (Thursday July 28, 2016).

Paramedics treated a 26 year-old male, working for a tree service, for a life-threatening laceration to one arm after the chainsaw he was using kicked backed.

The man, who was conscious when paramedics arrived at scene, was seven metres up in a bucket lift at the time of the incident. His workers lowered him to the ground and applied pressure to the wound and made a tourniquet from another worker’s t-shirt.

The worker was airlifted from scene by ORNGE. He is in critical condition in hospital.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has been notified of the incident.
