11 October 2010 / #fall Where to check out the fall colours today[ ](http://ottawastart.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/September-and-October-2010-195.jpg)The fall colours are at their peak at this time of year and with the nice weather today it’s a great day to head out for a walk and check them out. Some suggestions for the best spots to see the leaves : * Andrea over at [ a peek inside the fishbowl ](http://www.quietfish.com/notebook/?p=9259) has some great suggestions, including [ Fall Rhapsody ](http://ottawastart.com/story/11981.php) in Gatineau Park, places like Stony Swamp and the Jack Pine Trail in the Greenbelt, and the Arboretum at Dow's Lake. * Yesterday we took a walk on the [ Lime Kiln Trail ](http://www.savvymom.ca/index.php/newsletter/ott_a_secret_adventure/) in the Greenbelt, off Moodie Drive. We brought some seed for the kids to feed the birds (see below). * Take a bike ride or a stroll along the Ottawa River recreational pathway. Especially the west end between Island Park Drive and the turn to Lincoln Fields, or the east end between Rockliffe Park alongside the Aviation Parkway. Both routes give you gorgeous views of the trees across the river. (You can find bike path info on our [ Ottawa Bike Guide ](http://ottawastart.com/bike.php) .) * The grounds of [ Rideau Hall ](http://www.gg.ca/document.aspx?id=164) (the Governor General's residence) are beautiful all year, but especially at this time of year. And they're completely open to the public. And since you're nearby, you could stop at [ Beechwood Cemetary ](http://www.beechwoodcemetery.com/) as well. * Take a trip along the [ Rideau Canal ](http://ottawastart.com/rideau-canal.php) , heading south through Kemptville, Merrickville and Smith Falls. It's about a 90 minute drive one way, but it'll probably take you longer today because you'll stop to snap some photos. (And maybe head even further, all the way to Perth.)
