27 April 2012 / #schools VIDEO: The Heritage Academy Potato Project (launches today)Received this interesting note recently from Derek Rhodenizer at Heritage Academy in Ottawa:"I just wanted to take a moment to invite you to the Potato Project launch on April 27th from 1-4pm. This is an innovative project our school started where people/businesses/schools in Ottawa are growing potatoes vertically in reclaimed olive barrels. it is a technique that allows high yield in a small space. Each barrel can yield 40lbs of potatoes. I now have 60 people committed to a barrel, and a waiting list of 30 and growing. This means when we harvest we may have up to 3 tonnes of fresh potatoes to donate to the Ottawa Food bank. There are a few organisations (the Food Bank, Hidden Harvest, Growing Up Organic, Canadian Organic Growers, and some more pending) that will be setting up a space at the event to let the community know about what they do. We would like to invite you to come along."More info about the project here…** See also: ** Ottawa Schools GuideIf you liked this post, please consider subscribing to our blog via email, Twitter, Facebook or RSS.
