Union representing Ottawa Citizen and Sun employees votes in favour of strike mandate

The union that represents 68 employees of the _ Ottawa Citizen _ and _ Ottawa Sun _ has a strike mandate in contract negotiations with the papers’ owner, after members voted in favour of authorizing one.

The Ottawa Newspaper Guild and Postmedia, which owns the papers, are scheduled to meet with a conciliator on June 20 and 21, the _ Citizen _ reported.

The vote does not trigger a strike, but one could be requested if an agreement cannot be reached through conciliation.

Members of the guild have been without a contract since November 2015.
