** Thursday, February 28: Salon du livre de l’Outaouais **

The 34th edition of the Salon du livre de l’Outaouais runs from Thursday, February 28 to Sunday, March 3 at the Gatineau Congress Centre in the Hull sector. This book festival brings together a variety of publishing houses and authors who will be selling books, giving autograph sessions, presentations, readings and more.

** ** Thursday, February 28: Music & Literature: H. de Heutz, JB Staniforth, Jennifer Whiteford, Mark Molnar **

Black Squirrel Books, 508 Bank St. at 7pm.  Montreal writer Jesse B. Staniforth joins local writer Jennifer Whiteford to read in between sets from the eclectic & experimental H. de Heutz & the fiercely contemporary cellist Mark Molnar. $8 with all music going to the artists.

** ** Saturday, March 2: Carefor Chocolate Brunch Competition **

Looking for a family-friendly outing that benefits your community? Check out the 9th Annual Carefor Chocolate Brunch Competition. The competition is a fundraiser for Carefor Health & Community Services, a non-profit charitable organization.  Come join 400 attendees for brunch, live music, and a silent & live auction (items donated by local businesses). In addition to crowning the 2013 Carefor Chocolate champion, you’ll get to sample all the competition plates. At Centurion Conference and Event Centre (170 Collonade Road), 10am-1pm.

** ** Saturday, March 2: Seedy Saturday **

Seeds of Diversity is a Canadian charitable organization dedicated to the conservation, documentation and use of public-domain, non-hybrid plants of Canadian significance. Its members propagate and distribute over 2900 varieties of vegetables, fruit, grains, flowers and herbs. This Saturday marks the 20th Seedy Saturday event in Ottawa. Held at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre (Britannia Beach, 102 Greenview Avenue) from 10am-3pm, you’ll find a seed exchange (bring your seeds), seed sales, garden talks, good food and a number of workshops. If you’re a gardener, this is the place to be this weekend!

** ** Saturday, March 2: 3D Print-A-Thon **

Artengine invites you to come try out their newly acquired 3D printers and learn about 3D printing with some of the city’s foremost 3D printers. The Print-A-Thon will take place in Artengine’s M70 lab, in the Arts Court and is open to anyone wanting to learn and get creative.

** ** Saturday, March 2: Pop-Up Brewmaster’s Dinner **

As part of the Wellington End Music & Food Festival, Mill Street is hosting a pop-up brewmaster’s dinner at The Wellington Eatery.  Tickets are $60.00 and include a four-course dinner with beer pairing introduced by Ottawa brewmaster Adam Rader.  They are available at the Mill Street Brew Pub retail store and Wellington Eatery.

** ** Saturday, March 2: Jazz singers series: Gerri Trimble at GigSpace ** [

It features local vocalist Gerri Trimble, along with four instrumentalists well-known on the scene. ** ** Monday, March 4: Crush Improv’s ‘Bout Time **

This month’s Crush Improv’s Bout Time show moves into the Westboro Masonic Hall (430 Churchill Avenue). It’s a monthly 3-on-3 competitive improv show featuring some of Ottawa’s best improvisors. I’ll be playing the piano. Show starts at 8pm, $5 at the door.

** ** Tuesday, March 5: Mill Street Tweetup VII **

Want to make Ottawa social media more sociable? Why not meet your peeps up close and personal over some good food and great beer? The seventh tweetup at Mill Street Brew Pub (555 Wellington Street, at the Portage Bridge) promises a lot of great conversation. The event runs from 5 pm and typically wraps up around 9 pm. If you’re there at 5 sharp, you can even take a tour of the brewery and see what head brewer, Adam Rader, is concocting next. The event is free to attend but seating is limited, so reserve your spot now.

He’ll be talking about _ The Inconvenient Indian _ , his account of being “Indian” in North America, with Ottawa-based journalist and author Waubgeshig Rice, at Centretown United Church, 7 p.m.
