'The Donald Trump of the NHL': Twitter erupts after Sens owner Melnyk suggests moving team

#MelnykOut began trending Saturday afternoon, after Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk made controversial comments to the media about the financial shape of the team.

Melnyk sounded off on the team’s difficulty filling seats in the Canadian Tire Centre. While disputing rumours that he’d sell the team, he appeared to leave the door open to a possible relocation – even though the Sens-backed RendezVous LeBreton group is in negotiations with the National Capital Commission to redevelop LeBreton Flats, with a plan that would include a new rink for the team.

“Here, we’re fighting every day to sell a ticket. Honest to god. And when you get to the third round of the playoffs and you’re begging people to buy a ticket, something’s wrong with that picture. We’re just hoping that changes, that’s all," Melnyk said, reports Bruce Garrioch at the _ Ottawa Sun. _ Here’s a sample of Tweets from fans, as well as some sports journos/commentators: Eugene Melnyk controversy - Curated tweets by DevynBarrieNews
