19 August 2010 / #bike The City of Ottawa wants to know: What are the most dangerous spots in the city for cyclists? The City of Ottawa wants you to complete a survey to help them identify the most dangerous spots for cyclists in our region. From the City’s web site:From the data received, 15 to 20 sites will be selected for further detailed analysis. These sites will be selected based on both the extent to which they are deemed difficult for cyclists-- as well as the importance of the route for cyclists (ie volume). This initial study will be completed by the end of 2010 but an on-going program will be developed based on many of the recommendations made within this project. This is interesting – presumably the city has detailed stats on cycling accidents that are reported – but those usually involved serious injury or death. There are likely far more danger spots then the official data reveals. Good job, City of Ottawa.(P.S.: Here’s a start from CBC Ottawa: Ottawa’s bike lanes a problem for cyclists )** Related: ** Ottawa Bicycle Guide
