SUZANNE VALIQUET APPOINTED TO OTTAWA POLICE SERVICES BOARD

The Ottawa Police Services Board is pleased to welcome a new community member.  The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario has appointed ** ** Suzanne Valiquet ** ** for a two-year term, effective 18 February 2015.

 

Fluently bilingual, Ms. Valiquet brings an impressive range of experience and skills to the Board.  As President of the consulting firm Momentum Planning and Communications, Suzanne has expertise in social marketing, communication strategies, community consultation programs, and event planning/implementation.  From 2007 to December 2014 her work included overseeing the Merchants Association’s programs and operations of the Quartier Vanier BIA, through which she established strong ties with City officials, staff and community leaders.  Said Ms. Valiquet, “I am honoured to be joining the Police Services Board and look forward to working with the other Board members and Chief Bordeleau on the many challenges facing our Police Service and City.”

 

Speaking on behalf of the Police Services Board, Chair Eli El-Chantiry said, “Ms. Valiquet’s professional background and community relationships will be a valuable asset to the Board.  We are delighted she is joining us and look forward to working with her”.  Ms. Valiquet will be publicly sworn in as a member of the Board at its next meeting on Monday, 23 March 2015, 5:00 p.m. in the Champlain Room, Ottawa City Hall.

 

Ms. Valiquet joins six other members on the Board.  City Councillors Eli El-Chantiry (Ward 5 – West Carleton-March) and Jan Harder (Ward 3 - Barrhaven) were re-appointed by City Council on December 10, 2014 along with new Board member, Councillor Tim Tierney (Ward 11 – Beacon Hill-Cyrville).  Community members on the Board are Jim Durrell, Carl Nicholson and L.A. (Sandy) Smallwood.   On January 26

the Board re-appointed Councillor El-Chantiry as Chair and Mr. Jim Durrell as Vice Chair for the year.

 

The Ottawa Police Services Board is the civilian body responsible for governing the Ottawa Police Service.  It is responsible for the provision of adequate and effective police services to the City of Ottawa’s residents.
