Sens goalie Craig Anderson returns to team after wife Nicholle diagnosed with cancer

Support is pouring in for Ottawa Senators goalie Craig Anderson and his family, after his wife Nicholle was diagnosed with cancer.

Senators General Manager Pierre Dorion fought back tears as he announced the news at a press conference Saturday.

Anderson, 35, had taken a leave of absence Thursday with little explanation. Dorion said Nicholle urged her husband to rejoin the team after goalie Andrew Hammond was taken out by an injury Friday.

“Nicholle wanted Craig to phone me, she was the one that said ‘Craig, your teammates need you now.” said Dorion.
