Section of Greenbank Road to fully close Saturday night

Beginning on Saturday, August 22 at 11p.m. Greenbank Road will be closed to vehicular, cycling and pedestrian traffic in both directions between Malvern Drive and Wessex Road. The road will be closed to prepare for a new railway detour. Greenbank Road is expected to reopen on Sunday, August 23 in the afternoon.

Motorists should avoid the area during this weekend closure. During the road closure, traffic will be detoured to Woodroffe Avenue. Police will be directing traffic and Portable Variable Message (PVMS) signs will be on site.

OC Transpo Route 170 will be detoured during the period Greenbank Road is closed. For further information please visit octranspo.com .

Construction crews will be on site from Saturday night to Sunday morning to complete the work necessary to open the railway detour. When Greenbank Road reopens on Sunday, August 23, traffic will continue to use the temporary roadway between Malvern Drive and Wessex Road to facilitate the Greenbank Road widening project. The railway signals, which are activated as trains are approaching, will be relocated approximately 10m to the south of the mainline track.

During construction, there will be a greater need for all road users to share the road safely. When navigating through the detour, be cautious and watch out for construction vehicles and workers, pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists. Signage along the detour will emphasize the need to slow down and share the road.

The Greenbank Road Widening project is part of Ottawa on the Move, which is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
