This is a neat concept.  You subscribe to receive a weekly delivery of a box of locally-sourced food, containing everything you need to make a dinner recipe written by a local chef.  In this case it was for Okonomiyaki, a Japanese street food that loosely translates to “what you liked grilled”.  The recipe came from Chloe Berlanga, who’s worked at the Whalesbone Oyster House and the Elmdale Tavern.  ( Other chefs include Marc Lepine from Atelier, Steve Wall from Supply and Demand, and Marisol Foucault from Edgar.)  Weekly delivery starts at $59 for a meal that serves two, with deliveries every Sunday.

Our Okonomiyaki box was filled with all the ingredients to make a bacon- and seafood-filled omelette and side salad.  The box contained everything from shrimp, bacon, cabbage, asparagus and sweet potato, to ginger, honey, wasabi and sriracha sauce. The only things not included: olive oil, canola oil and salt.  The box is lined with re-useable ice packs and it’s delivered to your front step.

The recipe is illustrated and it’s easy to follow.  All of the ingredients are pre-measured so preparation is a just bit of chopping and cooking.  Our recipe took about an hour to prepare and made plenty for two large servings. (We could have easily made four smaller servings.) The food was delicious and I enjoyed making a recipe that was a little bit out of my comfort zone.  My only mistake was going a little too heavy on the wasabi at the end.  Here’s what it looked like…
