24 July 2015 / #craft #kanata René Trim’s Arts & Crafts: HOMEmade Sizzle in Kanata this weekendAs the OVCC is assisting Creative Creations Events with the [ HOMEmade Sizzle ](http://ovccshow.com/) – Ottawa’s hottest summer crafter event! – which is coming to the former Target location at the Hazeldean Mall this weekend (July 25-26), these last few weeks have been busy for all parties involved. Posters had to be printed and distributed, vendor confirmations had to be sent out, radio ads were produced, parking and set-up instructions for the vendors had to be mailed out, vendor tables had to be ordered, swag bags (for the first 50 visitors daily) had to be made and filled….and that’s only part of all the (last-minute) chores! As Creative Creations is based in Carleton Place and the OVCC is right here in Ottawa, it fell on yours truly to pay a visit to the Rogers TV studios on Richmond Road for an appearance on Rogers Cable 22’s popular morning show “Daytime”, produced and hosted by Derick Fage. I had secured the assistance of Natalie Lipson from Pluma, who designs and creates exotic feather earrings and is one of the participating artisans in the event. To support our verbal promotional “spiel” I had made arrangements with a group of vendors for drop-offs/pick-ups of some of their items on the weekend. Talking about an art & craft show is one thing but if you can show potential visitors what they can expect to find there makes it even more interesting. So, armed with bags and boxes of locally made goodness Nat and I entered the building, signed in and proceeded to the “Green Room”, the area where guests wait and relax until it’s time to head over the actually studio. We were met and greeted by Derick and co-host for the day Sheena. I have had the pleasure of appearing on Daytime before but it was a first for Nat so needless to say she was a little nervous. Fortunately, Derick is a master at preparing guests for what’s about to come and by cracking a joke or two and sharing some “pro tips” any tension Nat felt, went right out the door. While Derick and Sheena interviewed their first guests, Natalie and I (very quietly) set up our display table behind the cameras and before we knew, it was “lights, cameras, action” for us! A big “thank you” goes out to Derick for supporting local artisans and a local event! I know him and I can tell you he’s always looking for people in the community who have something to share; be it artists, musicians, chefs, event planners….well, you get the picture. So, if you want to have a go at doing live television, get in touch with Derick; his contact info is [ here ](http://www.rogerstv.com/page.aspx?lid=12&rid=4&sid=68&ref=daytimeottawa) . As for the HOMEmade Sizzle: we hope to see you Saturday and Sunday at the former Target location inside the Hazeldean Mall (corner of Eagleson @ Hazeldean – 10 to 4 daily) where we will have 100 vendors lined up for you with an amazing selection of locally made art and crafts. Feel free to bring the kids: we’ll keep them busy at the “Creative Kids Corner” while you peruse the venue! That’s all for now; have a creative week and come support local at the Sizzle!
