Rant of the Day: Reevely on green bins, maggots, garbage, landfills

Last week, David Reevely posted this on his Greater Ottawa blog:

I can't help but wonder what we'd have been like if somebody tried to introduce curbside garbage pickup for the first time in 2010.

“You want me to what? Keep my garbage in my kitchen and my bathroom for days, and then scoop it all out and put it in another can outside the house? They did this in Halifax and they got raccoons. I hear some places they even get bears. What kind of idiot wants to do something that’ll attract bears into the city? What about my children’s safety? I’m just going to keep using my midden.”

And for that, he’s nominated for today’s Rant of the Day. Read the entire post: “How I learned to stop worrying and love the maggots” .

City of Ottawa press release, with the latest stats on waste diversion and green bin usage , as well as a warning to not let your kids play inside green bins. (Maybe they’re looking for maggots?)

Tip:

Never, ever do a Google Image search for maggots. You’re welcome.
