Province announces $6.4 million for new complex at uOttawa

Ontario is investing in a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Complex at the University of Ottawa that will better equip students with the skills they need for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Ottawa-Vanier MPP Nathalie Des Rosiers was joined by David McGuinty, MP for Ottawa South at the University of Ottawa today to announce funding for the new facilities.

The investment from the province and the federal government will help the University of Ottawa create the new state-of-the-art complex and replace obsolete, energy-inefficient buildings. The multidisciplinary STEM innovation hub will provide students and researchers with access to business development expertise, supporting science and technology entrepreneurship.

  • The overall cost to complete this project is almost $115 million, and includes $51.5 million from Canada’s Strategic Investment Fund, $6.4 million from Ontario, and $57.1 million from the University of Ottawa.

  • Ontario has invested $735 million in capital funding for colleges and universities since 2013-14.

  • Research shows that every $100 million of public infrastructure investment in Ontario boosts the gross domestic product by $114 million, particularly in the construction and manufacturing sectors.
