A hero’s welcome for Olympic champions Erica Wiebe and Natasha Watcham-Roy Tuesday morning at the Ottawa airport.
Wiebe, of Stittsville, had won a gold medal in wrestling. Watcham-Roy hails from Gatineau and won a bronze in rugby sevens.
A large contingent awaited Wiebe, including residents from her hometown, mayor Jim Watson and west-end councillors Shad Qadri and Marianne Wilkinson.
Mayor Jim Watson said a welcoming party would be held at Stittsville’s Goulbourn Recreation Centre at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, where an announcement will be made to honour Wiebe. We have an event listing which will be updated as details become available.
Watcham-Roy also had some people waiting for her, as well.
