Photos of junk in a field in Stittsville

That’s really not the most compelling headline for a blog post, is it? Here are some pics I took on Friday while walking my dog in the big empty field near Abbot and Shea roads in Stittsville.

How does this stuff get here? The bathtub has been there at least since the start of the summer, but it’s in a location that’s at least 100-200 meters down muddy trails and uneven land. I can understand why people don’t want to make a trip to the landfill but it took a lot of effort to dump it here.

The tv on the other hand was left near a pile of other garbage that’s easily accessible from Shea Road. There’s even a rough roundabout, just, so you wouldn’t even have to back your vehicle in to dump this stuff.

As for the car wreck, that’s been there for a while. It’s flipped over, surrounded by trees, and I’m guessing the forest has been there for at least 15-20 years.

Two other things:

  1. This is a great place to walk your dog or go for a jog. There’s a huge network of paths and lots of interesting sights. Old fieldstone walls crisscross the area, marking off old property lines.

  2. Within the next few years this entire area will likely be clearcut and flattened to make way for the massive new Fernbank subdivision between Kanata South and Stittsville.
