** September 10-11: Fibrefest ** Local guilds will demonstrate spinning, knitting, weaving, rug hooking, lace making, smocking and quilting. Vendors include spinners, weavers, and fibre artists from across the province, as well as quilt shops and alpaca farms. ** September 6-11: Ottawa Turkish Festival 2016 ** The Festival will display Turkish art, folk dance, music and gourmet food, where visitors will get an opportunity to celebrate, learn, and savour Turkish hospitality, culture, heritage and cuisine. ** September 9: Rock the Block 2016 ** On the first Friday following Labour Day, Manor Park comes out for food, music, a pie-baking contest, displays, and an outdoor movie! ** September 9-11: Festival Ta-Da! in Wakefield QC ** Weekend-long celebration that serves up an eclectic mix of performances, with artists from as far away as Halifax, and as close as Wakefield. For the second year, Ta Da! is part of the Arts Alive! Quebec network of six arts festivals, funded by Canadian Heritage. Festival Ta Da! will take place at the Centre Wakefield La Pêche in Wakefield, QC. ** September 9-11: Baconpalooza ** Bacon, beer and music. This needs to happen more often! ** September 11: Heritage Ottawa Walking Tour: Lindenlea ** A fascinating stroll through a post-World War I planned community – a marvel of social engineering that was featured on the Governor General’s Christmas card. Pocket-sized Lindenlea promised returning veterans subsidized housing in a community designed by one of the mega-stars of European urban planning. Learn about the struggles over style, designing to suit liberated women, efforts at ecological soundness, and more than one scandal. Threats today face this historic gem.
