** ** Thursday, February 21: Wild and Scenic Film Festival **

To celebrate our wild spaces, the Ottawa Riverkeeper brings the Wild and Scenic Film Festival to Ottawa. The evening of seven nature-focused documentaries is hosted by CBC’s Alan Neal and includes door prizes like sailing or stand-up paddle lessons. Proceeds support Ottawa Riverkeeper programs. It’s at 7 p.m. at Library and Archives Canada.

** ** Friday, February 22: The Factory Reading Series Presents Hugh Thomas, Michael Blouin, Brecken Hancock & Abby Paige **

At the Carleton Tavern, 223 Armstrong (UPSTAIRS), doors 7pm; reading 7:30pm. Two established & two emerging poets. a rare opportunity to see New Brunswick poet Hugh Thomas. Enjoy camaraderie, good grub & quarts at the Carleton.

** ** Saturday, February 23: BadBadNotGood **

BadBadNotGood of World Famous Music will be performing live at Ritual this Saturday, February 23 with special guests Emoticon Dawn featuring Ian Keteku and Ottawa’s own DJ Magnificient. The Toronto-based trio known for their post-bop instrumental hip hop jazz style will be doing a live show in an effort to promote their latest album BBNG2 (available for free download on the band’s website ).

** ** Friday, February 22: Nature Nocturne **

If you missed the Museum of Nature’s Nature Nocturne party the first time around, here’s your chance to experience this unique dance party with beats by DJs iLon, Ali Azimian and Ron Lavoie. You’ll also get to check out some late-night galleries, art installations and creative workshop. Where else will you get to dance and pose with dinosaurs? There will also be a VIP lounge to chill and cash bars available on all the four floors. The last event received a lot of hype with 2,000 people in attendance. The event goes from 8 p.m. till midnight. Drinks and specialty snacks will be served on site but are not included in the ticket price of $20 – tax included. Get your tickets fast since the last event sold out quickly. There will be a limited number of tickets sold at the door.

** ** Saturday, February 23: 6th Annual Carleton University Chemistry Magic Show ** The activity room allows families can get their hands dirty by making ice cream with liquid nitrogen (yes, you can eat it!!), make their own slime and miniature Olympic medals, learn about smells, as well as the chemistry of wine and chocolate and showing up close versions of some of the Magic Show demonstrations. Seating is limited so please arrive early. Show at 11am and 2:30pm, for kids ages 4+. Theatre B in the basement of Southam Hall.

On the spoken word scene this week, catch Words of a Poet Vol.IV at the Ottawa Little Theater this Sunday, February 24. Words of a Poet will showcase some of Ottawa’s finest poetic artists including Raliq Bashard, Komi Olaf, Ikenna Onyegbula, Hodan Ibrahim, Brandon Wint, Ragaeeb Synonymous and Ibn Najeeb.

** ** Sunday, February 24: Garry Elliott and John Geggie at St. Luke’s Church **

Enjoy an evening of jazz-inspired guitar and double-bass music in the intimate space of St. Luke’s Church in Chinatown. Garry Elliott and John Geggie are both active performers in Ottawa’s jazz and classical music scenes, but not frequently heard together. Admission is by donation.

** ** Monday, February 25: Bourbon Dinner at Brothers Beer Bistro **

Brothers Beer Bistro is holding a 4-course dinner, each course paired with small batch bourbon. An amuse of a tobacco-smoked oyster will start the ** ** meal at 6 pm. It will be paired with a spiced old fashion or classic bourbon sour. Following courses will include a pork terrine paired with Basil Hayden’s; a “raviolo” (of citrus, raisin, and duck confit) paired with Knob Creek; a smoked pork belly paired with Booker’s; and a hazelnut mousse dessert paired with Baker’s. $105/person (including tax and gratuity).
