I say the people of Ottawa, because we’ll be inundated with great comedy. The only problem? Choosing what to attend: the All Star Show with Harland Williams, Nikki Payne, Mark Forward, Sean Cullen and others on Friday, the Ottawa Show with Jon Dore, Tom Green, Mike MacDonald, Rebecca Kohler, Graham Kay and Jeremy Hotz on Saturday, or one of the many other sessions promising top names, fresh talent and loads of laughs. (Of course, you’ll definitely want to see Crush Improv on Thursday.)_Denise Deby _**** ** Thursday-Sunday, October 3-6: Metcalfe Fair ** First held in 1856, the Metcalfe Fair offers a mix of traditional agricultural fair activities during the days and live music entertainment on-stage in the evenings. And, of course, you’ll be able to find lots to eat while you’re visiting. The gates and midway open Thursday evening at 4pm. Thursday evening you can check out a demolition derby behind the midway at 7pm. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the gates open at 7am. Daily admission for adults is $10 and children 6-12 are $4, with special prices on Thursday (Adults $7, children $3). The are extra costs for the Friday and Saturday evening shows. They also offer wristbands for the fair and the midway. Check out the fair’s website for more information, including a full event’s calendar._Gordon Dewis _**** ** Thursday, October 3: RADIOACTIVE ** Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. and the Mercury Lounge have teamed up to present Radioactive, a monthly indie music series showcasing collaborations from local, national and international artists, which starts this Thursday, October 3. For the first installment, local band High Waters will be performing live with Ottawa’s Eraserheads and Rock Forest of Montreal._Eliane Laberge _**** ** Thursday, October 3: A B Series **Ottawa’s home for performance and experimental poetry brings Americans Ron Silliman & Rae Armantrout to town to read at the Ottawa Art Gallery, 2 Daly at 8pm._Amanda Earl _**** ** Friday-Saturday, October 4-5: Beau’s Oktoberfest ** Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. is holding its annual Oktoberfest celebrations in Vankleek Hill this Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5. Not only can you sample a variety of craft beers at Beau’s signature fundraising event, you can also try the Bavarian-inspired cuisine and check out some live music from Kathleen Edwards, Sloan, Rich Aucoin, The Balconies and more._Eliane Laberge _**** ** Saturday, October 5: Star Wars Reads Day ** Book stores and publishers across North America will be promoting the love of reading along with the best story of all time (ok, debatable for some): Star Wars!!! In Ottawa, the Rideau Centre and Kanata Chapters stores will be hosting events starting at 3pm, including photo ops with characters from the movies (c/o the 501st Legion), themed activities and of course, Star Wars books._Tanya Snook _**** ** Saturday, October 5, BE THE GAME Fundraiser ** With founder Joe Drexler: “Building strong kids from the inside out.” Stop bullying in schools and sports, by being #kindeverytime. E-tickets from nataliericher@yahoo.ca_Max Keeping _**** ** Saturday, October 5: Basia Bulat and Evening Hymns **Man, this is going to be one of those shows where you leave saying to your date: “That was beautiful!” On Saturday you can catch this amazing bill in a fitting venue. The NAC’s Theatre will be the perfect setting for for this show. Not familiar with these artists? Check out a song from Basia Bulat and one from Evening Hymns ._Ryan Bresee _**** ** Sunday, October 6: NAC Family Adventures - A Journey to Dixieland **The ageless, electrifying music of The Dixieband recalls the festive atmosphere of the early years of the 20th century, when the New Orleans and Dixieland styles emerged. The show focuses on the songs, dances and dreams of this colourful period, as a lively old lady called Miss New Orleans relives her young, carefree years. Like a gramophone that takes us back in time, Miss introduces the audience to her marvelous memories, as she recounts the legends of Blues, Charleston, Shimmy and Scat music.At the National Arts Centre._Sara-Lynne Levine _**** ** Monday, October 7: Crush Improv’s ‘Bout Time ** I’ll be co-hosting and playing piano at Crush Improv’s monthly 3-on-3 comedy show at Mother McGintey’s (Heart & Crown / Byward Market). Competive improvised theatre, with the audience deciding who advances to the next month. Starts at 8pm._Glen Gower _**** **November 1-3: Ottawa Rock Camp (registration now open) ** Ottawa Rock Camp for Girls (ORC4G) is a non-profit 3-day musical camp for girls aged 13 to 17 where they will learn and practice an instrument (bass, guitar or drums), form a band, learn and practice a song together, and perform at the Showcase Concert!
