** WELCOME BACK FISH: ** Former Ottawa Senators star - and hearthrob - Mike Fisher returns to Scotiabank Place Thursday night with his Nashville Predators. The Sens Foundation anticipates a big crowd, and has enlisted some celebrities to help with the 50/50 ticket sales during the game. The funds from 50/50 help economically disadvantaged children access recreation and sports.  Among those you can buy from that night: CTV’s Kurt Stoodley, MPPs Lisa MacLeod, former Sens president Jim Durrell,  current Sens president Cyril Leeder, United Way president Michael Allen - and others including me!

** Ryan Bresee ** ** , radio host of CKCU’s Whatever’s Cool With Me : **

** MUSIC: ** The most exciting show in Ottawa this week has to be Kathleen Edwards on Thursday at the Bronson Centre. Her new album was co-produced by the also-awesome Bon Iver (who also happens to be her boyfriend). Check this song from the album . Now, your mission is to see if you can scare up some tickets.

** MUSIC: ** Great music this week. The Jim Cuddy Band with special guest Doug Paisley plays on February 9th at the NAC and also at the NAC is Sam Roberts Band with special guest Zeus on Saturday.

** SCIENCE: ** It’s Cool Science Saturday at the Canada Science and Technology Museum this weekend. Show up between 9am and 5pm this Saturday and see the experiments, workshops, speaker’s corner and learn about the challenges of cold weather exploration.

** STAR WARS IN 3D: ** Did you know that all of the Star Wars movies are being re-released in 3D?! {nerdgasm} And Episode 1: The Phantom Menace hits theatres this Friday, February 10th. If that wasn’t enough geekery, a member of the Capital City Garriso n (a volunteer Star Wars costuming organization that raises funds for charity) will be showcasing his homemade life-sized working R2D2 at AMC Kanata theater from 6:00-10:00pm.

** WINTERLUDE ART: ** If you’re out on the Rideau Canal Skateway, you can skate _ and _ see cool environment-themed photos. The exhibit is called Eco Art and it’s at Dows Gallery on the Skateway. The 40 photos, submitted by photographers aged 14-24 from across Canada, are pretty impressive.

** HOCKEY: ** On Saturday February 11, celebrate Hockey Day in Canada ! There are hundreds of indoor and outdoor rinks in Ottawa and it’s a great day to learn to skate (or at least, attempt to).

If you’re not the type who likes attending an assortment of bridal shows and want a more fun do-it-yourself approach to your wedding, you’ll want to check out _ Wed By Hand _ this Saturday at the Glebe Community Centre from 11-5 p.m. This eco-friendly, indie wedding show includes swag bags, a tasting room with samples from caterers and bakeries, and workshops to teach you how to make your own wedding invites to bouquets and boutonnieres. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 online or at the door for $10.

** COMMUNITY: ** This Sunday, February 12, I will be attending the Jewish Federation of Ottawa’s annual Mitzvah Day . This is a day for members of Ottawa’s Jewish community to come together, volunteer their time and energy, and help give back to the community. Mitzvah Day will take place at the Joseph and Rose Ages Family Building, 21 Nadolny Sachs Private starting at 8:30am. Pre-registration is recommended.

** LITERARY: ** On Tuesday, February 14 at 7pm at the Ottawa Public Library, Main Branch (120 Metcalfe), Ottawa fantasy writer Charles de Lint will present his views on contemporary fantasy and provide insight into creating this popular writing genre. Sounds like a great chance to have an unvalentine’s celebration by learning about how to conjure up shape shifters & wizards. Presented by the Canadian Authors Association. Members - free; Non-members $10.
