** Thursday, May 29: Cold War Cinema: Bond Movie Night

** What better place to watch a Bond movie than a genuine cold war era bunker? Cold War Cinema is back at the Diefenbunker showing the visitors' favourite James Bond movie. Will it be a Connery classic? Or maybe it’ll feature Roger Moore. You really can’t go wrong with Bond. The Diefenbunker will survey its visitors and members to pick the most popular Bond movie. The movie starts at 7pm, with an optional guided tour at 6pm. Tour and film is $15. Film only $8.

** ** Thursday, May 29: Poets for Humanity **

7pm at Pressed, 750 Gladstone; $10 or PWYC. Hyfidelik, Just Jamaal, Nathanael Larochette, Ali Alikhani, Brad Morden and V. The second edition of a new spoken word poetry series. sounds like great fun & a fundraiser for raise money for community programs in East Africa.

** ** Friday, May 30-Sunday, June 1: Gatineau Beer Fest

** Better known as the Festibière, will be taking over the Jacques-Cartier Park for its 4th annual edition. This year, 55 artisans and over 350 beers will be presented to the public. The event will also feature live shows by Radio Radio, Damien Robitaille and the Mackenzie Rhythm Section along with animations and workshops on beer and beer-making. Make sure you check out this event if you’re a beer lover, you certainly won’t regret it!

** ** Friday, May 30: Music, Art, Food and Drinks for Asinabka Festival **

This party has live music—drum group Frazier Whiteduck and the Capital, DJ Jas Nasty, Elizabeth Riley Band, Dynamite Motel, Erin Adair and The Gallop—as well as an art auction and refreshments. It’s a fundraiser for the annual Asinabka Film & Media Arts Festival, which shows work by independent artists that reflects Indigenous issues and cultures. It’s also an opportunity to see Gallery 101’s new space (51 B Young St. in Little Italy). 7 p.m.; entry pay-what-you-can or donation. Held in collaboration with the People’s Social Forum.

** ** Saturday, May 31: Capital Velo Fest **

Ottawa celebrates its love of bicycles with Capital Velo Fest taking place outdoors in front of the Ottawa City Hall. The 2014 edition of this bike festival will feature a bike rodeo, a night ride under the stars and live music by Kontrast, Crimsonics, The Ven Dreddies, Arms of the Girl, Tindervox and Glorious Moonrockets courtesy of CKCU.

Enjoy a creative and family fun day filled with music, theatre, culinary arts, dance and more. Event will include a performance by Junkyard Symphony, face painting, craft making, interactive activities, jugglers, stilt walkers, and mascots. At Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Blvd.

** Saturday, May 31: Nature Canada’s Bird Day Fair **

To mark the spring arrival of migratory birds to Ottawa, Nature Canada is hosting a Bird Day Fair at Andrew Haydon Park, near Ottawa’s very own internationally-recognized Lac Deschênes–Ottawa River Important Bird Area. Learn about and celebrate birds and their habitats with nature walks, crafts and a live birds of prey show. There’s an app for mapping wildlife sightings, too. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

** ** Saturday, May 31: Capital Vox Presents: New York State of Mind at St. Brigid’s **

If you’re a jazz musician, your mecca is New York City, as a place to play, a place to hear great musicians, and an inspiration in itself. Capital Vox, Ottawa’s community jazz choir, riffs off NYC in its concert this Saturday, with a program of songs inspired by the city – including jazz compositions, Broadway standards, and popular songs by Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, and Paul Simon. The choir promises a fun choral travelogue of ‘the city that never sleeps’.

The International convenes Latin lovers to kick off the summer with Latin Sparks on Saturday night. Taking place outdoors along Sparks Street, the block party promises to offer a night of dancing under the stars with complimentary workshops, latin music, latin cuisine and live percussionists and entertainment.

** ** Saturday, May 31: Kelp Records 20th Anniversary Party **

For 20 years, this local record label has been churning out great music. To celebrate, they are having a show with a bunch of artists on their roster. Come down to St. Albans Church to see The Acorn, Jim Bryson, The Hilotrons, Evening Hymns, Chris Page, Andrew Vincent, the Recoilers, Andy Swan, the Banditas, Rhume, and Flecton Big Sky. This will be huge!
