From the NAC Web site: “Dreaming dreams, hoping for success, facing reality. That’s the funny and touching story of Ted and Richard—whiz kids who want to become superstar pianists—and how they survive piano teachers, pushy parents, hours of practice, stage fright, and nerve-wracking competitions.” The show runs through to Jan. 28. I’ll be turning opening night into date night!** Denise Deby , ** who writes for ** Green Living Ottawa : **** DOCUMENTARY: ** If you haven’t been to the Ottawa Public Library in a while, I recommend checking it out (no pun intended). Sure, they have books, magazines, electronic games, ski passes and all that, but they also offer programs on a huge variety of topics. My pick of the dozens on offer this week would be _ The Chocolate Farmer _ , an NFB documentary about a cacao farming family in Belize—the film challenges the notion of “progress,” and it’s about one of my favourite foods (Thurs. Jan. 12 6:30-7:45 p.m., Sunnyside branch).** Laura Nicol , aka @311Laura : **** YOGA: ** Madonna Flow Yoga Party is back this Friday, January 13 at Rama Lotus in support of mental health! From 7:45-9:15 pm get your yoga groove on to the tunes of Madonna by cash donation to the Royal Ottawa Hospital. More info:** Gordon Dewis ** aka ** KeeperOfMaps ** :** MOTORCYCLES: ** The Ottawa International Motorcycle Show takes place at the brand new CE Centre (4899 Uplands near the Airport Parkway) this weekend (Friday to Sunday). With exhibitors and live entertainment, including Tools of Creation (2011 Grammy Nominee for Best Rock Song), there should be something for everyone who is interested in motorcycles. Admission at the door is $12 for adults, $8 for juniors with a family rate of $32 for 2 adults and 2 juniors. If you order per-event tickets through their website ( http://ottawainternationalmotorcycleshow.ca ) they’ll donate $4 from each pre-event ticket to the Ride for Dad.** Ryan Bresee ** ** , radio host of CKCU’s Whatever’s Cool With Me : **** MUSIC: ** Here’s a fun event for the whole family. The National Arts Center has The Mozart Experience on Sat. Jan. 14. Musicians, actors and mimes will bring to life a mischievous street musician caught in the act of playing the Orchestra’s grand piano. Much to her surprise, the conductor does not scold her, but offers her the chance to become one of the most famous composers of all time._ _** Don from foodieprints : **** FOOD: ** The Red and White: A fundraiser for Harmony House features the talents of Ottawa’s own Chef Michael Blackie of the NAC and the Toronto’s Chef Lora Kirk of Ruby Watchco. There will also be beer from Beau’s and wine from local Navan winery Domaine Perrault, among others. If you are a food lover and you would like to support a good cause, be sure to be at St. Brigid’s Centre on January 18th. Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased online with Eventbrite (additional fee of $4.59) or by phone at 613-853-3250.****** Brett Delmage, OttawaJazzScene.ca : **** JAZZ: ** John Geggie’s Invitational Series continues on Jan. 18 with some exceptional musicians joining him: Ron Miles (Denver) on Trumpet, and David Occhipinti (Toronto) on guitar. The music that these musicians will perform will likely appeal to listeners that enjoy instrumental music in all its detail and are not constrained by musical labels.
