We’ve never done Thanksgiving, but this year, it looks like there’ll be a green twist. In addition to the usual holiday crafts, hay wagon rides, and “many corn-themed activities” (I’m not making that up), the Web site is highlighting a new exhibit, called “Energy Park: Nature at Work.” I can’t promise anything exciting - as the Web page is full of ribbon-cutting ceremony photos (ahem), but if the weather’s nice, the kids always have fun at the Farm._Dennis Van Staalduinen , blogger & community activist _Thanksgiving is about celebrating a bountiful harvest, so why not head to the Experimental Farm? The Museum of Agriculture has special demonstrations, activities and programming that weekend. Plus the farm is a great spot to take fall pictures!_Juliette Giannesini , photographer _They’re harvesting energy at the Canada Agriculture Museum this weekend! There are lots of activities and demonstrations taking place, including apple cider making and tasting, grain elevator demonstrations, grain grinding and bread making. Weather permitting, you can also take a tour of the fields of the Central Experimental Farm in a horse-drawn wagon for an additional fee. More info about the event is here ._Gordon Dewis aka KeeperOfMaps _Celebrate the harvest—of energy! This Thanksgiving weekend, the Canadian Agriculture Museum’s outdoor Energy Park and special exhibits will demonstrate how farms produce solar, wind, and biofuel energy. (If helping press the fresh apple cider tires you out, look for food and drink for sale at the Hot Potato Company onsite.) 10 a.m.-4 p.m._Denise Deby , Green Living Ottawa _**** ** Monday, October 8: Crush Thanksgiving ** A special holiday Monday improv comedy show featuring special guest Dave Morris at the Elmdale Tavern, 8:00pm.. Dave is currently based in Vancouver and has performed at improv festivals around the world. He’s making a short stopover in Ottawa en route to the Montreal Improv Festival. Dave’s also leading an improv workshop the next day. I’ll be playing piano in the show. Laugh off the turkey._Glen Gower , Editor/Owner of OttawaStart.com _**** ** Wednesday, October 10: Two Nova Scotia bands: THE STANFIELDS + GLORYHOUND ** Highly recommended. Heard before the herd. CBC’s Bob Merserau says: “Too many of these bands sound like Pogues wannabes, but that’s not where The Stanfields are coming from. They want to rock very hard, honour traditional East Coast music, and sing about being from a place with hard-working people, the ones they grew up with, and the ones in their audience.”_Eugene Haslam , Zaphod’s Owner _**** ** Have a great week! **** See also: ** Ottawa GuideIf you liked this post, you should ** subscribe to etcetera , ** our free email newsletter.
