It’s the last weekend for Winterlude and Monday is Family Day . Here are some great event ideas for the weekend.

** OUTDOORS: ** This Friday evening from 4pm to 7pm you can join the Friends of Gatineau Park volunteers for an evening of snowshoeing under the stars at the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre, 33 Scott Road in Chelsea. Discover how animals and plants face the many challenges of winter survival. Reservations are required and can be made at 819-827-2020 or 1-800-465-1867. This is a bilingual activity.  Adults $15 (Friends of Gatineau Park members: $12), seniors and students $12 (members $10), children $5. Snowshoes included.

** KIDS: ** We’re looking forward to checking out the Funatorium Explorium on February 18-20. There will be a ton of fun stuff to do for families with kids age four and over. Lego! Climbing! Jousting! Circus school! Everything you need to tire your kids out.

** COMEDY: ** I secretly believe comedy can change the world, so I’m excited about Cracking-Up the Capital for Mental Health on Saturday, February 18 at 8:00 p.m. at the NAC. The event, which supports the Royal Ottawa, features Patrick McKenna, Derek Edwards, Debra DiGiovanni, Joey Elias and Trent McClellan.

** JAZZ: ** John Geggie plays with an all-Canadian cast this Saturday – particularly appropriate for a concert that’s part of the NAC Presents program which promotes Canadian music. Activities include storytelling, theatre and dance workshops, games, arts and crafts, and lots more! According to the NAC website this event is for “kids aged five and up and the people who love them”. And it’s all free!

** KINDNESS: ** Next week marks the start of the annual city-wide Kindness Week, encouraging Ottawans to “choose to be kind” to their fellow community members. The Kindness Week launch will take place this Friday, February 17th from 10:30 – 11:30am in Jean Pigott Hall in Ottawa City Hall. More information is available on Facebook . As part of Kindness Week, on Family Day (Monday, February 20th) we will be hosting our annual Ottawa Centre Skate Party at McNabb Outdoor Rink, 180 Percy (at Gladstone and Bronson) from 1 – 3pm.
