** Josee from Frugal Fun Ottawa : **

** TOURS: ** Friday is the final day for this season’s ** free tours of the NAC ** . Tours start at 11 am and 1:30 pm and depart from the main lobby. I called to see if the tours are kid-friendly, and staff assured me that kids are welcome. What a great way to get a backstage peek into the world of the performing arts!

** Eugene Haslam , Zaphod’s Owner:

** ** ART: Art In The City , August 26-28 at Confederation Park (Elgin & Laurier) ** . Within the heart of the nation’s capital, you will find a wide array of artisans eager to share their creations in various mediums. From paintings to pottery, jewelry to glass art, home decor to food, there is surely something to interest all. All works exhibited for sale are original arts or crafts (or prints of same) created by and produced by the exhibitor.

** Max Keeping , CTV Ottawa’s Community Ambassador: **

You can also check out the Merrickville Artisans show which runs in conjunction with the antique show on the same grounds. The show is on Saturday 10-5pm and Sunday, 10-4pm rain or shine. On Saturday and Sunday, the Festival’s ** Envirotent ** has sessions on do-it-yourself bike repair, local edible plants, energy alternatives, the wisdom of trees and more – check the schedule for details.

** Ryan Bresee , radio host of CKCU’s Whatever’s Cool With Me : **

** FOLK: ** The ** Ottawa Folk Festival ** has a great line-up and it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t recommend you go see ** J. Mascis ** play a solo set Saturday night. He’s the frontman for Dinosaur Jr. and his voice might not be for everyone, but I like him so much that I named my radio show after one of his songs.

** Laura Nicol , aka @311Laura :

BOOKS: ** This event at Octopus Books in the Glebe on Saturday should be a great local event. Join us for an evening of politics without all the politics.  Octopus Books is celebrating the unsung heroes in our town, the workers who toil away on government campuses out of the spotlight of parliament hill in the darkest recesses of our great bureaucracy. ** Jeff Bursey and Christian McPherson ** have first hand knowledge of such a life and have captured it in darkly funny books that we think every Ottawan should and will enjoy!

** ** Juliette Giannesini , aka Zhu, photographer: **

PRIDE: ** This Sunday, I’ll get my camera ready and I’ll follow the

** Capital Pride Parade ** , starting from 1 p.m.

The Parade travels through the downtown core, along Wellington Street, down Bank Street, and ends at Ottawa City Hall’s Marion Dewar Plaza. Attending the colourful festival is a great way the support the LGBT community—plus let’s face it, I’m sure they will be a lot of street photography opportunities!
