** Thursday, April 4: Out Of Control EP Release Show **

On Thursday, April 4, Cafe Dekcuf is hosting the Out of Control EP Release Show as of 8:30 pm. The Ottawa rock band will be playing new tunes alongside Harea Band and Monday I Retire, both also from the National Capital. This is the perfect opportunity to discover emerging local music at its finest.

** ** Saturday, April 6: Fill-A-Bag Fabric Sale **

Attention crafters! EcoEquitable is having a great big fabric sale this Saturday - and it’s a great way to support their work providing temporary employment and skills development training through small-scale textile recycling.

** ** Saturday, April 6: “Fill-A-Bag” Fabric Sale **

Local organization EcoEquitable is holding a moving sale on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For just $10 you can fill a bag with unused, recycled fabrics as well as buttons, zippers and other notions, plus treat yourself to Bridgehead coffee and baked goods. It’s also an opportunity to find out more about EcoEquitable, which produces creative local, hand-sewn bags and other products using recycled and new textiles, while providing employment for people who are disadvantaged.

** ** Saturday, April 6: Sol da Capital Reunion Concert at GigSpace **

French-Canadian jazz vocalist Rachel Beausoleil and Brazilian jazz guitarist/singer Evandro Gracelli forged a strong musical link when Evandro was in Ottawa for two years, and it grew despite many months and thousands of kilometres of separation. Hear them together again on Saturday, with Emilio Martins, a fine percussionist Evandro brought with him from Brazil. They’ll play their joint transnational compositions: Brazilian jazz with lyrics in English, French and Portuguese.

** Saturday, April 6 & Sunday, April 7: Max Keeping Foundation bowlathon **

Bowling so kids can play! The annual Max Keeping Foundation bowlathon has two events this weekend: Rock’n’Bowl on Saturday night at Merivale Lanes, and the traditional family bowlathon at 11am Sunday. The rock party is sold out - a band called Warn The Neighbours providing the music; Sunday’s event can accommodate more teams - minimum pledges of $50 per bowler. You can also drop by to watch and enjoy, and donate. We’re told the Mayor might try bowling on Sunday.

** ** Sunday, April 7: Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi live at Ritual **

To finish off the week with some World Music, catch Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi live at Ritual with an acoustic solo set by Ottawa-based singer-songwriter Mighty Popo to open the show. Zimbabwean music icon Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi will be performing in Canada’s National Capital alongside The Black Spirits thanks to World Famous Music.

** Tuesday, April 9: ** ** Sazarac Bourbon Family Tutored Tasting & Food Pairing ** Weary of wine?  Want to learn about whiskey?  Want to support a charitable cause while attending an exclusive event?  The Fitzpatrick brothers are hosting a guided whiskey-tasting and food paired multi-course dinner at Petit Bill’s Bistro (1293 Wellington Street W.) with

Hosting the Women’s World Championship in 2013 is an opportunity for Ottawa to continue to shine as the Capital city of our great country where the game of hockey was born. **

** ** Wednesday, April 10: Metz at Babylon **

I know people who are still raving about the last time Metz played Ottawa. They are heavy and loud, but the underlying melodies are infectious. These guys have deep Ottawa roots, but are now based out of Toronto and have signed to Sup Pop Records. Check out this video. http://youtu.be/krGDNbT4CSE

** Until April 21: The Edward Curtis Project at the Great Canadian Theatre Company ** While on assignment in the far north, Angeline, a Métis reporter, stumbles upon a story that is so haunting, she is unable to erase the images, and it compels her to question the role of reporters as witnesses and the accepted notions of the strength and spirit of aboriginal peoples. Along the way she challenges Edward Curtis, the iconic turn of the century photographer who created a photographic record of “the vanishing race of the North American Indian”.
