** MUSIC: ** Juno award-winning jazz singer Kellylee Evans will be performing at the Ottawa Jazz Festival’s annual fundraiser on Thursday, December 8, and it’ll be a performance you won’t want to miss. Her voice is captivating and she puts everything she has into each performance. Her latest album, ‘Nina,’ is a tribute to the late Nina Simone and will have you doing a double take since her rendition to the legend is so similar. As a bonus, you’ll be catching a great performance and helping out a local arts organization at the same time. Tickets available via the Jazz Festival’s website .

** HUMAN RIGHTS: ** On Thursday, Dec. 8, help celebrate Amnesty International’s 50th birthday and write letters in support of people around the world whose rights are at risk. There’ll be music, cake and more, so drop by the Canadian Museum of Nature between 5pm-8pm. Or check out other Write for Rights events in town this weekend.

** MUSIC: ** This Friday, you should check out C.R. Avery at The Black Sheep Inn . The first time I saw him, I was at a slam poetry event. One of the performers got on stage and asked a guy who looked like Kramer from Seinfeld to join her on stage. He looked totally out of place until he opened his mouth. He started beatboxing and then rhyming and he completely blew my mind.

** CHRISTMAS: ** The Mayor’s 11th Annual Christmas Celebration takes place on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 2pm-6pm in the Aberdeen Pavilion at Lansdowne Park (1015 Bank Street). This fun-filled celebration will include a visit with Santa, treats in Mrs. Claus’ Candy Shoppe, crafts in Santa’s workshop, carousel and train rides, face painting, horse-drawn wagon rides, plus some tasty treats sponsored by BeaverTails and Papa Jack popcorn.

Everything, produced by local food artisans like michaelsdolce, Happy Goat Coffee and Siren Bakery. There will be a silent with products donated by vendors to benefit the School Breakfast Program.

** CHRISTMAS MARKET: ** The Canadian Museum of Civilization is once again hosting its Christmas Market in the Marius Barbeau Salon this Friday (11am to 7pm), Saturday (10am to 5pm) and Sunday (10am to 5pm). The Christmas Market features breads, cheeses, confectioneries, local food products, organic produce, artisanal spirits, unique handcrafted objects, original jewellery, handbags and fashion accessories produced by artisans from the Outaouais. Admission is free.
