** COMMUNITY: ** I am looking forward to attending the Afghan Women’s Fundraising and Awareness Event this weekend. It is being hosted by the Afghan Students Association of Ottawa, and will focus on raising awareness of the challenges and successes that Afghan women have faced in the past decade. The event is also a fundraiser for World University Service of Canada and a way to introduce the Afghan Students Association to the wider Ottawa community. It is being held this Saturday, February 25 from 5:30 – 7:30pm in Tabaret Hall at the University of Ottawa.

** SAY THANK YOU: ** We can never say thank you enough to the First Responders - the police, fire and paramedic services who provide us 24/7 protection.  For the third year, the Ottawa 67’s are giving us that opportunity. Come to the 67’s game at 2pm on Sunday, Feb 26 to meet hundreds of police officers, fire fighters, and paramedics. They’ll be there thanks to MBNA and the 67’s, and on your behalf, I’ll give a collective address of gratitude to these highly committed public servants, who put their lives on the line for us everyday.  And of course, enjoy the game - the 67’s are one of the elite teams in the OHL. Tickets are priced for families!

** SNOWSHOES: ** I did this last month and it was fantastic. This Sunday at 1 p.m. is CPAWS monthly snowshoe hike for a $5 donation to their wonderful work protecting our green spaces. This snowshoe hike will be exploring the eastern fringes of the National Capital Greenbelt, in particular, along Greens Creek. With its unique geology of deep ravines and table lands, Greens Creek is one of the many gems of the Greenbelt. This 4.6 km trail follows the creek northward toward the Ottawa River where we will have the opportunity to learn more about Greens Creek, the Greenbelt and the Ottawa River. For those interested, a short snowshoe hike through Mer Bleue is also possible afterwards. In that case, we will be hiking the 1.2 km Mer Bleue Bog trail.
