Ottawa power outage: where to recharge, get a shower and eat

The City of Ottawa has opened several emergency reception centres, which are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for residents to recharge, shower and washrooms.

The following facilities offer power for charging devices, showers and washrooms, food and Red Cross:

• CARDELREC Recreation Complex Goulbourn, at 1500 Shea Road (Wifi available).

• François Dupuis Recreation Centre, at 2263 Portobello Boulevard (Wifi available).

• Howard Darwin Centennial Arena, at 1765 Merivale Road.

• Hunt Club-Riverside Park Community Centre, at 3320 Paul Anka Drive (Wifi available).

These facilities have power for charging devices, showers and washrooms:

• Plant Recreation Centre, at 930 Somerset Street West (Wifi available)

• Richmond Arena, at 6095 Perth Street (Wifi available)

• J.A. Dulude Arena, at 941 Clyde Avenue (Wifi available)

• Bernard-Grandmaître Arena, at 309 McArthur Road (Wifi available)

• Navan Memorial Centre, at 1295 Colonial Road

• Walter Baker Sports Centre, at 100 Malvern Drive (Wifi available)

• 1. Erskine Johnston Arena, at 3832 Carp Road

• Jim Durrell Recreation Centre, at 1265 Walkley Road (Wifi available)

• Canterbury Recreation Complex, at 2185 Arch Street

• Kanata Leisure Centre, at 70 Aird Place

The following facilities have power for charging devices, and washrooms:

• Carleton Heights Community Centre, at 1665 Apeldoorn Ave.

• Kenmore Community Centre, at 3242 York’s Corners Road (Wifi available)

• Ben Franklin Place, at 101 Centrepointe Drive (Wifi available)

If you have lost access to your well water, bottled water is available at the following locations along with access to fill containers with potable water:

• Greely Community Centre, at 1448 Meadow Drive

• Howard Darwin Centennial Arena, at 1765 Merivale Road

• Navan Memorial Centre, at 1295 Colonial Road

• Orléans Library at 1705 Orléans Boulevard

• Osgoode Community Centre at 5662 Osgoode Main Street

• Richmond Arena, at 6095 Perth Street

• 1. Erskine Johnston Arena, at 3832 Carp Road

To support residents on home oxygen therapy and who are not able to be serviced in time by their current provider, supplier will support residents with Medical Oxygen needs and device recharging at the following reception centres:

• Howard Darwin Centennial Arena, at 1765 Merivale Road

• François Dupuis Recreation Centre, at 2263 Portobello Boulevard

Please bring equipment (oxygen concentrator or portable oxygen concentrator) and a copy of your prescription to ensure you know your oxygen delivery litre flow.

• The city has been doing an extra green bin collection this week, for neighbourhoods most affected by the storm. "Priority for food waste will be given to most of Stittsville in Ward 6, all communities in Ward 9 that have lost power, the Riverside Park and Mooney's Bay area in Ward 16 and the villages of Navan, Cumberland and Sarsfield in Ward 19." Residents whose bins have not yet been collected are advised to take it in at the end of the day and put it back out to the curb the following morning.

• Regular garbage and recycling collection will occur this week, but delayed by one day because of Monday's holiday.

There are special collection bins at the following locations for residents to dispose of waste:
