30 January 2015 / #art #buildings & architecture Ottawa Launches First Winter Design FestivalOTTAWA, ON – Ottawa’s first Winter Design Festival launches February 1 st at Aberdeen Square, in the newly renovated Lansdowne Park. The festival, meant to showcase the Canadian design and art community, will open the doors to new trends and invite the Ottawa public to interact with innovative design and architecture. The festival comprises of three parts: · ** Winter Design Festival Design & Build Competition ******** When? **February 1 – 16, 2015 ** ** ****** Where? **Aberdeen Square @ Lansdowne Park, Ottawa ** ** This exciting competition will bring our design community out into the snow to create an interactive habitat fit for Ottawa’s blustery winters. Installations will be available for the public to interact with between February 1 – 16, 2015. Winning installation _ Loopdrop _ was chosen by a panel of design industry experts and community activist coming from the educational and professional stream of Architecture and Urban Planning. · ** Winter Design Festival Agora **** When? **February 6 th , 2015, 19h00 – 22h00 ** ** ** Where? **Horticulture Building @ Lansdowne Park, Ottawa The Agora takes the form of a studio event meant to showcase industry ready product in an interactive and entertaining setting that is open to the public. The festival will showcase designs from Canadian fashion houses Anomal Coture and Helmer in combination with live art and music. · ** Winter Design Festival Oratory **** When? **February 7 th , 2015, 15h00 – 16h30 ** ** ** Where? **Horticulture Building @ Lansdowne Park, Ottawa This conference component of the festival acts an outlet for the design industry to present industry-ready solutions. Special guests and speakers, including designer of Ottawa’s Horticulture Building Crystal Bossio and renowned Canadian War Museum architect Raymond Moriyama, will discuss designing for the winter, indulging industry participants who are eager to learn how to adapt to their environments from an artistic perspective. _ Presented by Winter Design Festival in partnership with the City of Ottawa with funding provided by the Government of Ontario.
