Northbound Main Street closed from Riverdale Avenue to Lees Avenue

_ (press release) _ Beginning Monday, May 2, northbound traffic lanes on Main Street will be closed from Riverdale Avenue to Lees Avenue. From Clegg Street to Lees Avenue will reopen in September, while from Riverdale Avenue to Clegg Street will reopen in November. One lane will remain open to southbound traffic.  A signed detour will be in place.

This traffic restriction is required for watermain and sewer replacements, road reconstruction, paving and landscaping, as part of the Main Street Renewal Project.

Northbound motorists and cyclists will be detoured via Riverside Drive, Bank Street and Isabella Street. It is expected that this lane closure will have significant impacts on traffic during peak hours, and motorists using Main Street northbound should anticipate delays. The public should avoid the area when possible.

The Main Street Renewal Project is a multi-year project that includes the rehabilitation and/or replacement of portions of the infrastructure on Main Street and a small section of Rideau River Drive. The underground work on Main Street includes the replacement of the watermain and sewers. The project also includes road and sidewalk reconstruction of Main Street from Harvey Street to the Rideau River, and road reconstruction of a small section of Rideau River Drive.
