Nicholas Street southbound closed overnight Wednesday

_ (press release) _ Nicholas Street from Laurier Avenue to Highway 417 will be fully closed southbound and reduced to one lane northbound overnight from 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 to 4 a.m. Thursday, April 21. A signed detour will be in effect.

The closure is needed in preparation for a major change to traffic flow on Nicholas Street that will take effect on Sunday, April 24.

As of April 24, the Transitway from Laurier Avenue to Lees Station will be closed permanently to allow for O-Train Confederation Line construction. For more information about transit service adjustments during O-Train Confederation Line construction, visit ontrack2018.ca .

One northbound lane on Nicholas will become a designated bus-only lane, indicated by diamonds painted on the pavement. Both southbound lanes will remain open to all traffic.

As with all other diamond-marked transit lanes across the city, motorists are prohibited from travelling in the designated lane, and fines will apply. Motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes.

This work is part of the O-Train Confederation Line light rail transit construction, and part of Ottawa on the Move. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
