Nicholas Street from Rideau Street to Besserer Street to be closed to traffic permanently as of Monday, April 4

_ (press release) _ As part of the renewal of Rideau Street, the City of Ottawa is working with Cadillac Fairview Corporation Ltd. (owner of the Rideau Centre) to transform Nicholas Street from Rideau Street to Besserer Street into a pedestrian public space, to be called Ogilvy Square.

This block of Nicholas will be permanently closed to vehicular traffic as of Monday, April 4, so work can begin. All work to create Ogilvy Square will be done at the cost of Cadillac Fairview under the agreement to expand the Rideau Centre. Businesses will remain open as usual.

As part of the Rideau/Arts Precinct, the space will support a variety of outdoor functions including cafés and programmable space for artistic installations and special events. Ogilvy Square will also include an enhanced pedestrian surface, street trees and bicycle parking.

Construction of Ogilvy Square is expected to be completed this summer.
