20 May 2015 / #fairy godmother #high school Fairy Godmothers to dress Ottawa area students for prom this SaturdayOTTAWA, ON –On Saturday, May 23, 2015 Fairy Godmother of Ottawa will open its doors for a Boutique Day where graduating teens who need a Fairy Godmother can find a Cinderella-worthy dress to make their prom night a magical experience, and it's free. ** Fairy Godmother of Ottawa **was founded in 2002 by Melissa Shabinsky and Catherine Whitla to provide formalwear to Ottawa area high school graduates so that they can enjoy their prom in style. The goal of the program is to help make a positive impact on the participant's self esteem by making them look their best on prom night and to celebrate their accomplishments while feeling proud and confident no matter what their economic circumstances might be. _ "If all that is keeping a graduating student from going to prom is a gorgeous dress, we can help," _ says Catherine Whitla, co-founder of the Fairy Godmother prom program. _ _ Since the start and through their major sponsor _ Browns Cleaners _ , they have collected thousands of beautiful gowns and have dressed over 1500 Ottawa area girls for their prom. High school guidance counselors, community centres and social organizations refer the candidates to Fairy Godmother and upon their arrival at the boutique day, they are assigned a personal shopper, or fairy godmother, who helps them to select their gown, shoes and accessories.
