City preparing for more snow and for warming temperatures

_ (via City of Ottawa) _ City crews continue to remove snow on roads and clear sidewalks following this week’s record storm, and are now preparing to plow and salt priority roads in anticipation of the forecast of snowfall this evening. ** Snow Plowing ** Road plowing will first take place on priority roads, including Highway 174, transitway, and major arterial and collector roads. If there is more than 7 cm of snow accumulation, the plowing of other local roads may begin ** once the priority transportation network is in good condition. ** ** Melting snow ** The removal of snow banks following this week’s record snowfall is still underway and many catch basins remain covered with snow. This could result in some water pooling at the end of driveways or in portions of streets once temperatures rise.

During a melt, some pooling is normal. However, if you see significant pooling that stretches across roads or is approaching buildings, you’re encouraged to do one of the following:

Call 3-1-1 if you believe the accumulation of water is hazardous and needs immediate attention.

 * 
Remove the snow yourself from the catch basin on your street, if you know where it is and can do so safely.

Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to exercise caution while driving due to wet roads and limited sight lines due to high snow banks

Sidewalk walking conditions may continue to be difficult following this week’s storm as cleanup continues.

Melting snow and ice on rooftops can become a danger to pedestrians. Please watch for falling snow and ice.
