City calling for volunteers to assist with sandbag, debris removal in flood areas

Beginning Saturday, volunteers of all abilities, age 12 and over, are urgently needed over the next two weeks for sandbag and debris removal at flood-affected properties in West Carleton, Bay and Cumberland.

Work will take place between 9 am and 7 pm on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday June 2.

If you are able to help, please report to one of these Volunteer Registration Centres.

Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2

  • Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre 100 Clifford Campbell Street Registration from 9 am to 4:30 pm

  • Constance and Buckham’s Bay Community Centre 262 Len Purcell Lane Registration from 9 am to 4:30 pm

  • Innovation Park and Ride Shuttles travel regularly between Constance Bay and the Park and Ride (No registration at this location)

  • Ron Kolbus Centre 102 Greenview Avenue Registration from 9 am to 4:30 pm

  • Trim Road Park and Ride Shuttles travel regularly between Cumberland and the Park and Ride Registration from 9 am to 4:30 pm

Organized groups who want to volunteer should call 3-1-1 ahead of time so we can help coordinate your efforts.

Information for volunteers:

Volunteers will be supplied with gloves and may be required to lift up to 20 kg. Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing with long sleeves, pants and boots is recommended. Clothing may get dirty, wet or damaged. Volunteers may bring food; water and snacks will be provided.

To save time, print and complete your waiver form in advance and bring it with you to the Volunteer Registration Centre. Volunteers under 18 need a parent or legal guardian to sign their registration forms and must be supervised by an adult on site.
