RioCan, owner of the Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre, has applied to the city to demolish the old mall.

Shopkeeps at the mall – which has been dwingling in tenants and traffic in recent years – were notified that their leases may be terminated this summer, although the plan shows two new buildings will be constructed on the site for Metro and Rexall, plus some room for other retail space.

CBC has the full story…

My feeling is we’re at a time of rejuvenation for a lot of Ottawa’s old malls – RioCan is redeveloping not only Lincoln Fields, but is also looking at high-density residential development at Westgate Shopping Centre. Meanwhile, the owners of Carlingwood Mall are looking at demolishing the big Sears wing, rebuilding a space for a new anchor tenant – and possibly some residential units as well.

The next few years in Ottawa mall news should be interesting.
