ByWard Parking Garage temporarily closes for updates and rehabilitation

_ (via City of Ottawa) _ The 290-space ByWard Parking Garage, located at 70 Clarence Street (at Parent Street) in the ByWard Market, will get a top-to-bottom refresh this spring. This planned maintenance is the first comprehensive work to be done on the garage since 1994.

From Wednesday, March 16 to early May, the parking garage will be closed to all vehicles.

During the closure, residents and visitors are encouraged to park at the City parking garage at 141 Clarence Street (located between Dalhousie Street and Cumberland Street), visit ByWard Market Parking or use available on-street parking.

Residents and visitors are also encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation to access the area, such as OC Transpo , carpooling, cycling and walking.

After the ByWard Parking Garage re-opens in early May, construction will continue and a small number of parking spots in marked-off sections will continue to be impacted.

Businesses remain open as usual during construction, including the businesses located in the ByWard Garage building.

There will also be traffic impacts and closures of sidewalks and lanes on ByWard Market Square, Clarence Street and York Street from time to time, as required.

Improvements to the ByWard Parking Garage include:

 *
Replacing the floor on the basement level

 *
Upgrading the fire alarm system

 *
Improving the foundation wall

 *
Painting

 *
Installing new doors and frames

 *
Repairing concrete throughout the garage

 *
Refreshing the electrical systems

The work is expected to be completed in the fall.
