16 January 2011 / #awesome Awesome Ottawa: Ottawa's air among Ontario's cleanestWe have fresher air than Toronto. Awesome. From a City of Ottawa press release :The City of Ottawa welcomes the results of an air quality report released today that finds Ottawa’s air is the purest of all southern Ontario cities.“Even though our City is blanketed in white snow, this is another example that confirms Ottawa is very much a green city,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “This weekend when residents are out enjoying our parks, trails or skating on the canal, they will be able to breathe in the cool, crisp, clean air as just one of many advantages our City has to offer.” “Ottawa is blessed to have air that is better than many other Ontario cities” said River Councillor Maria McRae, chairwoman of the City’s Environment Committee. “Last year we had two smog advisories. In 2008, there was only one. Even the numbers for ground level ozone, an irritant to the respiratory tract and eyes, were low, and our score of 17 micrograms of particulate matter per cubic meter is one of the best in the entire province.” The Air Quality in Ontario 2009 Report is available on the Province of Ontario website at [ http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/publications/8035e.pdf ](http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/publications/8035e.pdf) . ** Related: ** Ottawa Weather Guide
