Team Canada won their fifth consecutive gold medal at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa, defeating Sweden 5-1 in the final game. The event hosted 453,282 fans over 11 days, a World Junior attendance record. The event also set a record for the highest-attended single game, with 20,380 attending the Gold Medal game.
The 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship comes to Ottawa from December 26, 2008 to January 5, 2009. The tournament will feature 10 countries competing in 31games. Games will take place at Scotiabank Place in Kanata, and the Ottawa Civic Centre in The Glebe.
The event will set a new World Junior attendance record. The previous recrod was set in 2006 in Vancouver-Kamloops, when 374,353 fans attended the games.
