The City is holding a photography contest in conjunction with the upcoming Wildlife Speaker Series event. Winter is for the Birds, the fourth and final event in this series, takes place on Tuesday, December 9 at 7 p.m. at Ben Franklin Place, 101 Centrepointe Drive.
Renowned local birder and Ottawa Citizen columnist, Bruce Di Labio, will speak about how Ottawa’s birds cope with winters. Bruce had led bird watching groups locally and internationally for many years. He also writes about birds in various publications, including the weekly World of Birds column in theOttawa Citizen.
A nature slide show as well as an environmental exposition will be offered for residents to learn more about Ottawa’s wildlife, natural environment and local environmental initiatives.
The City’s Wildlife Speakers Series is intended to increase residents’ knowledge and appreciation of wildlife, as well as promote coexistence through understanding and respect.
Local birders and photographers are invited to submit photographs of wild birds taken in or around Ottawa. All entries must be submitted electronically via email at firstname.lastname@example.org by midnight on Monday, December 1 to be eligible.
All photographs received will be displayed in a public slideshow before and after the Wildlife Speaker Series presentation on December 9.
The five best photos, as selected by a panel of judges, will be professionally printed, mounted and presented to the winners. Winners will be notified prior to the Wildlife Speaker Series event.
