The union that represents 68 employees of the Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun has a strike mandate in contract negotiations with the papers’ owner, after members voted in favour of authorizing one.
The Ottawa Newspaper Guild and Postmedia, which owns the papers, are scheduled to meet with a conciliator on June 20 and 21, the Citizen reported.
The vote does not trigger a strike, but one could be requested if an agreement cannot be reached through conciliation.
Ottawa Citizen/Sun union members today voted 91 per cent in favour of authorizing a strike if necessary, currently bargaining w/ Postmedia.
