Doors Open Ottawa to launch its 7th season
News Posted by steve on June 01, 2009
This Wednesday, Ottawa’s favourite architectural event will kick off its 7th season at one of Ottawa’s newest architectural gems. The launch promises a sneak preview of the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat, which is just one of 108 buildings slated to open their doors free to the public this weekend.
Home to the Aga Khan Foundation Canada, the Delegation was designed by world-renowned architect Fumihiko Maki and officially opened last December by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Its focus on openness and transparency is reflected throughout with an impressive play of light on translucent surfaces.
Launch date: Wednesday, June 3, 2009
Time: 10:30 a.m., Tours and reception follow
Location: Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat, 199 Sussex Drive, Ottawa
Parking: Parking and entrance on Boteler Street
Doors Open: Actual event June 6 and 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, local residents and visitors have a rare opportunity to peer into private spaces and behind the doors of some of Ottawa’s finest buildings. By showcasing distinct examples of architecture, engineering, design and heritage, Doors Open promotes a greater appreciation of Ottawa’s built heritage from Cumberland to Carp.
