Public safety is the City’s number-one priority during any transit service disruption. The City is doing all it can to reach a fair settlement with Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 279 that respects our taxpayers, drivers, employees and transit riders. The City recognizes that a disruption would be hard on everyone, especially seniors and families with children, should ATU 279 decide to strike, and it will provide information to help residents cope. For updates, visit octranspo.com, ottawa.ca, monitor regular media reports, or call the OC Transpo Public Information Line at 613-741-4390, or 3-1-1. For continuous traffic updates and reports, listen to Information Radio 99.7 FM. Residents are encouraged to travel outside rush hours or find alternate means of travelling, such as carpooling, cycling or telecommuting. Employers should consider flexible work options for their employees for the duration of the strike. A complete list of carpooling lots can be found atoctranspo.com. Transit Park & Ride locations are available for carpooling during the disruption. Major lots are located at: To find carpool partners near your home or workplace, visit OttawaRideMatch.com. To help accommodate the projected 20 per cent increase in car traffic, the following adjustments have been made to the City’s traffic and parking regulations: You can park all day where one-, two- and three-hour unmetered parking is currently permitted. You cannot park where stopping and parking are prohibited. Parking meter charges and regulations remain in effect to ensure short-term parking is available for customers of local businesses. Do not park in metered spaces beyond specified times. The bus lanes on Albert and Slater Streets, Mackenzie King Bridge, Montreal Road, Rideau Street east of King Edward, and Woodroffe Avenue are open to public use at all times. For the safety of the community, access to the Transitway and bus-only lanes on Highways 417 and 174 are restricted to emergency vehicles only, including police, fire and paramedic. To ensure that key traffic lanes remain clear, tow-away zones will be strictly enforced. All other regulations in the Traffic and Parking By-Law remain in effect, including no-stopping regulations, corner-parking restrictions, and those pertaining to the blocking of driveways, fire hydrants and fire routes. For continuous traffic updates and reports, listen to Information Radio 99.7 FM.Some points to note
