Summary: Comedy Tour is Williams' First in Six Years.
As part of his eagerly anticipated North American stand-up comedy tour this fall, entitled "Weapons of Self-Destruction," award-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams will bring his trademark free associations and riffs on social and political absurdities to the nation's capital. Donald K Donald, in association with Ken Craig Productions, is pleased to present Robin Williams for one night only at Scotiabank Place on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008.
"It's an election year, which is basically Christmas for stand-up comics," said Williams. "And I figured I should get my ass on the road while the Shrub is still in office. A lot has happened in the world and in my life since I last did this six years ago and there's no better thrill and no better therapy than getting on that high-wire in front of a live audience."
Robin Williams will appear on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman this Thursday, Sept. 4 at 11:30 p.m., offering fans a taste of what to expect in his upcoming Ottawa appearance. The program airs on CFMT (OMNI 1) as well as all CBS stations. Williams last toured in 2002 when he returned to the stand-up scene after a sixteen-year hiatus. The sold-out tour earned the distinction of being one of the highest-grossing comedy tours in history and culminated in a final performance filmed by HBO and broadcast live from New York City. The resulting July 2002 HBO broadcast, Robin Williams: Live on Broadway, was nominated for five Emmy(R) awards.
With four Golden Globe(R) awards, four Grammy(R) awards, and an Oscar(R) to his credit, Williams has become one of the most successful and beloved figures in entertainment history. In addition to his upcoming tour, Williams will soon be seen starring in the Disney comedy Old Dogs opposite John Travolta and will reprise his role as 'Teddy Roosevelt' in the sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.
"Robin Williams is simply the funniest and most talented artist I have ever had the privilege of working with throughout my career," said Donald K. "If an election year is Christmas for him, then a quick glance through Canadian newspapers will fill his stocking with plenty of additional anecdotes."
Tickets will go on sale on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m., and can be purchased online at www.CapitalTickets.ca, by phone at 613-599-FANS (3267) or 1-877-788-FANS (3267); in person at The Sens Store at Rideau Centre and Place d'Orleans, any Ottawa Sports Experts location and at the Scotiabank Place box office.
