Come Watch Fools Fall in Love
The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet

Come Watch Fools Fall in Love
The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and
Juliet
This summer A Company of Fools proudly presents The Most
Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet for their annual
Torchlight Shakespeare series happening in Ottawa City Parks throughout
July.
Romeo and Juliet is William Shakespeare's classic story of
love and adversity, family and fate. It is arguably one of his best
and most popular plays, beloved by generations worldwide.
The selection of Romeo and Juliet is a new direction for the
Torchlight Shakespeare series from previous years as it will be the
first time the company presents one of Shakespeare's great tragedies. But
knowing those Fools, it can't be completely serious the whole way through.
This play is also the directorial debut for Ottawa actor AL Connors. AL has been with the company since 1999 and is a valuable
member of the Ottawa
performing arts scene. In November 2007 he was presented with a United Way Community Builders Award for his work with the
Canadian Improv Games. This production of Romeo and Juliet is a
full-circle turn for Connors as it was the first production he ever saw
produced by A Company of Fools.
"Romeo and Juliet is a fantastic story" says Director
AL Connors "it has everything you could want out of a play - vibrant
characters, blinding love-at-first-sight, stinging death scenes, brilliant
wordplay and fierce swordplay - all of which ultimately serve to make the
world a better place."
We're really working local actor Jesse Buck hard this year
by giving him five different parts to play in Romeo and Juliet. This is
Jesse's first time working out of doors for The Fools so he's really
hoping he won't get chased through the park by a groundhog.
As always, the Torchlight Shakespeare series is adapted to
suite all ages from four to forty to four hundred.
Directed by AL Connors, Romeo and Juliet features local
actors Jesse Buck, Aaron de Casmaker, Nick di Gaetano, Richard Gélinas
and Emmanuelle Zeesman. Costumes designed by Lou Hayden, Scott Florence
Artistic Director and Producer.
The play takes place outdoors in parks across the city of Ottawa (see schedule on our website at www.fools.ca) at 7 pm every evening Monday to Saturday from July 3rd - August 4th. Admission is
pass-the-hat and pay-what-you can ($10 suggested donation).
