Rogers TV Provides Exclusive Coverage of 2008 Ontario Police Memorial

Rogers TV recognizes police officers who have paid the supreme sacrifice in the performance of their duty with exclusive coverage of the 2008 Ontario Police Memorial Service which took place on Sunday, May 4. Rogers TV's coverage will air on Wednesday, May 14 at 6:00PM with encore presentations on Sunday, May 18 at 2:00PM and 10:00PM.

Lieutenant Governor David C. Onley, Premier Dalton McGuinty and Minister Rick Bartolucci will join with families and friends to pay tribute to police officers who have sacrificed their lives to protect others. The Memorial Service will be followed by a ceremony at Queen's park where the Premier will present Ontario's "Tribute to the Fallen" plaque to the family of York Regional Police Detective Constable Robert Plunkett.

"Rogers TV is honoured to have been given the opportunity to share this Memorial Service with viewers across Ontario," says Gregory Grimes, Director, Central Ontario. "We work in partnership with our local police force on a variety of projects and are eternally grateful for everything they do to make our community a safer place. Our deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of the officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty."

"They are our heroes and we shall not forget them. They knew the risks and accepted them. They gave their lives in order to keep our communities safe. We would ask all Ontarians to take a moment today to remember their sacrifice as well as those made by their families and loved ones," stated Bob Baltin, the President of the Police Association of Ontario that represents the over 31,000 front-line police personnel in the province.

The Ontario Police Memorial is dedicated to all of the police officers in Ontario's history who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The Memorial depicts a male and female officer atop a granite base. The names of 234 fallen officers are carved in granite walls that surround the base of the monument. The Memorial is situated in a small park on the northeast corner of Grosvenor and Queen's Park Crescent opposite Queen's Park. The Annual Memorial Service is held on the first Sunday each May.

Tune in for the 2008 Ontario Police Memorial airing on Rogers TV Wednesday, May 14 at 6:00PM with encore presentations on Sunday, May 18 at 2:00PM and 10:00PM.
