Everyone is invited to participate in the only planned public event during His Royal Highness The Prince Edward stay in Canada
The National Capital Commission (NCC) is pleased to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, to the Capital Region during his working visit to Canada, which takes place from October 9 to 14, 2007. During his stay in the Capital Region, His Royal Highness The Prince Edward will take part in a special event organized in honour of the 150th anniversary of the choice of the Capital by Queen Victoria. Members of the public and the media are invited to join him for his only public event in Canada: Date: Thursday, October 11, 2007 Time: 12:15 pm Location: Capital Infocentre, 90 Wellington Street, across from Parliament Hill What: His Royal Highness The Prince Edward will take part in a symbolic white pine tree planting and will unveil a commemorative plaque in honour of the 150th anniversary of the Capital. His Royal Highness will be joined by Russell Mills, Chair of the NCC, Micheline Dubé, Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, and other dignitaries. British-Columbia's Jay Knutson and Alberta's Josée Lajoie will perform on the Six String Nation Guitar Un amour, une histoire, a song composed in honour of the 150th anniversary of the Capital. Members of the public in attendance will also be invited to celebrate with a piece a cake (while quantities last). Following this event, His Royal Highness The Prince Edward will be escorted by the special guests to the National War Memorial in Confederation Square to meet representatives from Veteran Affairs Canada and lay a floral wreath.
1857 – A CAPITAL CHOICE The NCC is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the choice of the Capital in 2007. This anniversary, which commemorates the year 1857 and the events that led to the historic decision by Her Majesty Queen Victoria on the choice of the Capital, is marked by events and celebrations held by federal partners, the cities of Ottawa and Gatineau, as well as festival and tourism partners in the Capital Region. The white pine tree symbolically planted by His Royal Highness The Prince Edward will be part of the 150 white pine trees planted by the NCC in the Capital Region, as a legacy of the 150th celebrations and a tribute to the industry that was instrumental in the development of the region.
