Summary: The National Capital Commission (NCC) is pleased to present Estate in Bloom at Mackenzie King Estate on July 28 and 29, 2007.

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is pleased to present Estate in Bloom at Mackenzie King Estate on July 28 and 29, 2007. From 1:30 to 4:30 pm, the public is invited to visit the beautiful gardens at Mackenzie King Estate and learn more about the former 10th Prime Minister of Canada's passion for horticulture and landscaping.

On Saturday and Sunday, volunteers in period costume will conduct guided tours of the gardens, and visitors will encounter historical figures from the era, including William Lyon Mackenzie King himself, who will recount his great interest in Gatineau Park, the Estate and Victorian gardens.

Several special activities will take place during the weekend. A naturalist from the Friends of Gatineau Park will be on hand for guided strolls to overlook the different summer wildflowers on the Estate. The strolls begin near the meadow at Moorside, and are available at 2:15 pm and 3:45 pm (at 1:30 pm and

3 pm in French). Visitors to the Estate can also learn about a unique natural phenomenon - the migration of the Monarch butterfly. This presentation will be offered by Jean Lauriault, environment specialist with the Canadian Museum of Nature, and will take place at Moorside on Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm (at 1:30 pm in French). Live jazz performances by Polished Brass with Sid Arnold, featuring music from the period, will take place at 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm.

A short documentary film about the life of William Lyon Mackenzie King will be presented at Kingswood and Moorside cottages. Children are invited to participate in period games and flower-related crafts. Visitors can also enjoy refreshments ($) from the Mackenzie King Tearoom, which will be hosting a floral-themed tea party on the Moorside lawn.

Located in the heart of Gatineau Park, the Estate was the residence of the Right Honourable William Lyon Mackenzie King, who held the office of Prime Minister of Canada for almost 22 years. Every year, this national cultural attraction welcomes thousands of visitors who come to admire the beauty of this Canadian treasure.
