In recognition of National Drug & Addictions Awareness Week, November 19-25, 2006, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), in collaboration with the Champlain Addiction Coordinating Body and the Ottawa Integrated Drugs & Addictions Strategy, will host a forum, entitled, "Dazed and Confused: Problematic Marijuana Use Among Teens." Open to the public at no cost, this forum-- following up on the huge success of a similar forum held in the spring-- will be held on November 23rd at Rideau High School, 815 St. Laurent Boulevard from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. The Forum's Keynote Speaker is Kathleen Szirtes, M.S.W., a specialist from British Columbia in youth mental health and substance abuse and author of an educational resource on youth marijuana use to be released in 2007. She will explore the stages of addiction; the impact of problematic marijuana use on the individual, family, school and community; and how parents, teachers and service providers can respond. Alana Kainz, Journalist and Co-Chair of the Ottawa Integrated Drugs and Addictions Strategy, will emcee the evening and moderate a question and answer period with a panel that includes a teen, parent and school representative.
